# Files on your computer

> How to keep your cloud Eggent's projects folder on your computer as an ordinary folder, synced both ways with Syncthing.

Source: https://eggent.ai/docs/file-sync/

Your cloud workspace's projects folder can live on your computer as an ordinary folder: change it here and it changes there, and the other way round. It works through **Syncthing**, a free open-source program.

> [!NOTE]
> If you use the [Eggent app for Mac](https://eggent.ai/docs/desktop-app.md), you do not need any of this: the app keeps files, chats and the agent's memory in step with the cloud by itself ([how](https://eggent.ai/docs/desktop-cloud.md)).

What it is good for:

- opening the agent's results in the programs you know: Word, Excel, Obsidian, a code editor;
- dropping material into a folder on your computer instead of uploading it through the browser;
- keeping a copy of all your files.

## What is synced {#what}

Only the **projects folder** (`data/projects`): the orchestrator's files and every project. Chats, settings, keys and system folders (`.pi`, `node_modules`) are not synced, and neither is `.mcp.json`, since it may contain tokens.

Sync works **even while the workspace is asleep**.

## Connect a computer {#setup}

Open `https://cloud.eggent.ai/sync/name` and sign in with the same email and password as the workspace. Then four steps, once per device:

1. **Install Syncthing** from [syncthing.net](https://syncthing.net/downloads/) and leave it running in the background.
2. **Tell us your device id.** In Syncthing: **Actions → Show ID**; copy the long code and paste it on the page.
3. **Add the server in Syncthing.** In Syncthing press **Add Remote Device** and paste the server id from the page. Tick the box saying you have added it and press **Connect**.
4. **Accept the folder.** Within a minute Syncthing on your computer offers a folder. Accept it and choose where it goes on your disk.

> [!TIP]
> If you missed the folder offer, **do not create a new folder**: it would get a different id and the two sides would never meet. Add a folder by hand, paste the folder id from the sync page into **Folder ID**, and share it with the server.

## If it does not connect {#troubleshooting}

- Wait a minute: devices do not find each other instantly.
- If there is still no connection, open the server device's settings in Syncthing, the **Advanced** tab, and put the server address shown on the sync page into **Addresses**.
- Check the status on the sync page: "In sync", "Syncing, N%", "Offline, last seen …" or "Waiting for the first connection".

## Several devices {#devices}

The same page lists **Connected devices**. You can connect another computer or disconnect an old one. Files already downloaded stay on a disconnected device.

## Deleted files and the trash {#trash}

Files deleted or overwritten during sync are kept for 30 days in Syncthing's trash (the `.stversions` folder). It is not shown in Eggent's file panel.

## When the plan is inactive {#inactive}

If the trial or the plan has ended, sync keeps **sending** files to your computer but stops **accepting** changes from it. The sync page shows this. After payment it works both ways again.
