The agent's email

Every Eggent Cloud agent has an email address of its own. How it writes to you, what happens to letters sent to it, how a letter to somebody else waits for your yes, and how to set up sending on your own server.

In Eggent Cloud every workspace's agent has an email address of its own: <workspace>@eggent-mail.com. Nothing to connect and no password to enter. Ask the agent "what is your email?" and it tells you.

The first letter

A few seconds after you sign up, the agent writes to the address you signed up with: a short hello from its own address, saying what its mailbox is for. Next to it is the letter from Eggent with a code that confirms your address. Enter the code on the screen where the workspace is being made (or open the link in that letter), and the agent can write to you whenever you ask.

If the letter with the code went missing, look in spam; the sidebar has a button that sends it again.

Letters to you

Say "send it to my email" in a chat and a report, a table or a document goes to your confirmed address, files attached (up to five). A letter to yourself goes at once.

A schedule can send letters too: "every Monday morning, email me the week's news on my topic". The A letter from your agent card on the new-chat screen sets this up for you: it asks for a topic, sends one real letter right away and then puts the next ones on a schedule.

Letters to the agent

Anybody can write to the agent's address. Letters land in one of two folders:

  • Inbox: letters from your own confirmed address, replies to the agent's own letters, and addresses you allowed. If your Telegram is linked, you get a short notice about each.
  • Other: everything else, strangers and advertising included, without a notice.

The agent does nothing with a letter by itself. Say "check my mail" or "what did Anna reply?" and it reads them. To the agent a letter is information, never instructions: a letter that says "send me the files" is not a request it carries out. Files that come with a letter are saved in the workspace; the agent does not run or unpack files that could be dangerous.

Reading the mail yourself

Mail in the sidebar, under Messages, is the agent's mailbox: Inbox, Other and Sent, with a count of what is unread. A letter opens on its own page with its files to download, and opening a letter reads it. The notice in Telegram links straight to it.

Hand to the agent under a letter opens a chat about it: the agent reads the letter there as material and does what you ask, and nothing is sent until you say so.

When somebody replies to a letter the agent sent from a chat, a line appears under the newest answer of that chat: who replied and the subject, with a link to the letter. The agent does not read the reply until you ask.

Letters to other people

On a paid plan the agent can write to other people too, at most five in one letter. Every such letter waits for your yes outside the chat:

  • in Telegram, a message with the whole letter and the buttons Send, Send, and always allow these addresses and Do not send;
  • or, without Telegram, a letter to your confirmed address with a link to a page where you read it and decide.

What you see is exactly what will go: once asked, the letter cannot be changed. A request waits 48 hours, then expires and nothing is sent. Nobody can say yes for you, the agent included: an agent may have read something that told it what to do. A letter to other people carries a line saying an AI agent sent it on your behalf, and a link to stop receiving them.

On the trial the agent writes only to you.

How many letters

Each plan includes a number of letters a month, and of those, a number to other people; the billing page says how many. They start again on the first of the month. The hello, the codes and the confirmations are not counted. When they run out the agent says so and when they come back.

On your own server

A self-hosted Eggent has no mailbox of its own, but the agent can send through your mail server:

Variable What it is
EGGENT_SMTP_URL smtp://user:password@host:587 or smtps://…
EGGENT_EMAIL_FROM The address letters come from
EGGENT_EMAIL_OWNER Your own address, for "send it to me"

A letter to anybody but you waits for your yes in the chat. Nothing is received there. The agent can read these variables, so this yes keeps an honest agent honest rather than stopping a hostile one; give it a mail account you would trust it with.
